Let me
introduce David: He was born in Glasbow Scotland in 1933 - the
son of John and Rosetta Abernethy. As a young lad around 10 years
old he would draw the cartoons that showed in the daily newspaper.
While attending school in Ruchill Glasgow he was interested in
drawing. He remembers on one occassion the school teacher took the
class of boys and girls to the Art Gallery of Glasgow. David was
around 11 years old. They could draw anything they wanted to and David
chose to draw a bird that was on display. He was presented with a
certificate for his good effort.>
> In 1948 the Abernethy family emigrated to Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, where Davod's Dad was employed with the CNR (Trancona). After working at several workplaces David was able to commence a 30+ year career with Manitoba Hydro. During that time he found the love of his life, Nettie Reimer, from Morden Manitoba. They were wed in June 1958 and were blessed with four boys.> > > David retired in 1988 and David and Nettie moved from Thompson Manitoba to Penticton BC. During their stay in Penticton they moved from Macleave Avenue to the gated community of Sandbridge on South Main Street. There he had the opportunity to join a group of watercolour artists headed by Bernie Cattani who inspired the group in the techniques of the art. It was sad to have Bernie pass on. A friend of Bernie's, a BC artist Angela McIntosh joined our ranks to fill in for Bernie. David had the ability to create art somewhere within and it took both Bernie and Angela and the rest of those attending the group to get it out of him for which David is thankful!> Return to Artists Return to Art Groups Return to WorldArtTours.net |
