Biography
Elaine
was born and schooled in Saskatchewan, growing up in small towns and
spending her high school years in Regina. Her fondest memories
are of big blue skies, sunshine, vast expanses of prairie (so
non-restricting) and in winter, the wonderful glitter of hoar frost on
the trees, diamonds sparkling in the sunshine. Elaine was already
developing an artist's eye and she still finds the cold beautiful and
inspiring.
In grade 9 or 10, she did take one art course, but receiving no
encouragement or interest from the instructor, she soon turned to other
activities.
Elaine has always been interested in art galleries and displays of
creativity and found decorating a home on a limited budget a
challenge. She settled for knickknacks or "touches" which
subsituted for all the artwork she would have bought if she had had the
means and the space.
Elaine and her husband Charles moved to Sandbridge in Penticton seven
years ago. Elaine found that most of her art collection did not
suit her new home so they bought several watercolours but she decided
that if she was to surround herself with artwork she would personally
have to find a less expensive solution.
Elaine noticed the watercolour class offered at the clubhouse and the
rest is history. She joined the happy
group. Elaine surprised herself and a few others in actually
producing those much desired paintings herself and she is pleased
to display her own work at home.
Elaine has really enjoyed finding her "latent" talent. To date
she has not spent enough time experimenting with new and different
approaches but hopefully the guidance of Bernie
Cattani and Angie McIntosh will
spurr Elaine on to new discoveries.
