Artists Retreat of the North Now Open!
First Painting Workshop held!
Stewart, B.C.

First Workshop held Feb 1-2, 2007

The Retreat is Now Open

Angie went up to the Art Retreat of the North at the end of January, completed a few projects and held the first watercolour workshop in the home.

After working on the building and painting in Stewart and at the house on her own it was a delight to finally open up the retreat and to share the love and magic of watercolour with others.   With little advanced notice, and help from Marilyn Anderson and Eva from Harbourlight Store putting up a couple of posters, six residents from Stewart joined Angie for the first painting workshop in the home.  Some of the folks hadn't even painted before and beautiful works of art were made!  The first evening was devoted to the basic skills used in painting, design methods, and colour theory.  The second evening focused on a review and then work on paintings using simple ideas of a building in the snow or spring tulips.

The workshop facilities worked great.  We set up workstations for the artists.  Presently there are six portable worktables and two large tables in the adjoining area but as soon as Angie can drive up there will be enough portable tables for 10 participants and an instructor if the lounger is moved to the sunroom.

The exposed wooden floors were faux painted and now the back sunroom studio is available for class and retreat visitors use.  It may be possible to work in 6 - 8 worktables in that area.  There is a beautiful view of the hanging glaciers from this space and Angie took advantage of this to work on a quick watercolour sketch of the snowy peaks.

Presently the retreat is open for individuals and smaller groups.  When a few more touches are added it will be available for full groups, hopefully by summer 2007.

The Artists Retreat of the North is ideally situated for artists-in-residence, workshops, and retreats.  It has 2700 square feet of room in facilities that will eventually accommodate up to 11 people sharing.

The WorldArtTours Artists Retreat of the North is also participating
in the Artist In Residence project and would like to have
an artist in residence at all times.  Contact us for an application.
